Janesville Parker, Janesville Craig open girls golf season | Girls Golf

Janesville Craig finished sixth and Janesville Parker was seventh in the Verona Invitational girls golf tournament Thursday at Edelweiss Country Club.

Middleton won the invite with a 336 score. Craig finished with 399, while Parker came in with a 403.

Kallie Lux led the Cougars with an 85. Sara Nerad was second with a 93.

“Although 399 is not the score that we hoped for, we thought it gave us a good starting point,” Craig coach Alex Schaar said. “We had a great first week of practice and have a lot of golf ahead of us.”

Parker’s Sophia Dooman topped the Janesville golfers with a 79, which was the third-lowest score recorded. Middleton’s Kate Meier carded the low score of 75.

Dooman had eight pars and birdied the par-3 No. 17 hole.

“Her putting was incredible,” Parker coach Mary Ross said. “She’s going to be a strong leader for us.”

Ashlyn Burdick shot an 89 for the Vikings.

Both Craig and Parker, along with Milton, which took second Thursday at the Watertown Invite, will participate in the Edgewood Invitational at Yahara Hills today.
